## 5. Academic Monograph
Lactobionic acid is a chemical peeling ingredient that enhances facial skin hydration and elasticity in women aged 30-40 and 50-60 years, with particular effectiveness in improving skin hydration in women aged 50-60.
When used with carboxytherapy, it significantly improves skin elasticity around the eyes with demonstrated effects on R2 and R7 parameters.
It is effective in reducing vascular and pigmentary components of dark circles around the eyes, showing statistically significant improvement in vascular dark circles in the tear trough area.
In a hyaluronic acid-conjugated form, it can be used as an adjunctive therapy to improve ocular surface integrity and reduce drug-induced adverse effects.
It is very well tolerated by all skin types including sensitive skin, demonstrating reduced skin roughness, improved wrinkles, enhanced skin elasticity and firmness.
Through structural and systems biology approaches, skin brightening and UV protection functions have been confirmed, showing alleviated pigmentation and antioxidant effects in zebrafish models.
It is widely used in pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and food industries and can be produced through both chemical oxidation and biotechnological methods using microbial and enzymatic systems.
